We have learned a lot about ourselves by choosing to quit our lives and go sailing. A stable home, lots of bills, cars that always needed something, and that calling for an adventure, because face it…everyday life in an office sucks. You work hard, you make somebody else rich, and they could care less if you lived or died. You trade your time for money, to buy crap you don’t need, to impress people that you don’t really like.
With sailing, it has defined who good people are. The ones that are willing to help and teach you things that you would never figure out on your own. There is a comrodery between the people who own sailboats…or, boats in general. We have found that the Manta Catamaran owners tend to stick together. Amazingly, the folks who have boats that look like they were in the movie Waterworld are usually friendlier than most!
But, at the end of the day, it is always us versus the world, and the odds are always on the house. We decided that the adventure that you seek, is your own. If you can’t escape your office, you hate your job, bills, Xmas with your crazy family. An escape is to read our blog. Or, go buy a sailboat…and try it for yourself. “I triple-dog-dare-you!”
The world is going to keep spinning. The sun will continue to rise, and set. It has since the day you were born. The only variables in life are chances, the ones you choose to take. The ones that pass you by, because you were too chicken to take the gamble.
Being a sailor is a lot of work. The stress of not knowing what the next day may bring. A great adventure, or just a cold and wet ride to the dock for water. The satisfaction of building your own ship…sailing it to a far away land….There are a lot bumps, bruises, cuts, scrapes and gashes to get there.
Is it worth all of the trouble? I don’t know that yet. But, I do know that the only person that I serve is myself. Maybe this will be some insight or inspiration for one of you to take a chance, do something remarkable. Or, just play it safe, and history will never know you even existed.
Where do we go from here? There are lots of areas of the map that we haven’t seen. Hopefully our adventures take us to some spectacular places. “Your future isn’t written yet, make it a good one!”
This isn’t our usual blog post with lots of happy pictures, and neat sea creatures. Sometimes people who are interested in the whole story really want the truth. The truth is that you will have to work hard for what you want and nothing is free. (If it is free, it has something attached that you don’t want, or it’s because someone else didn’t want it either).
Moral of our story is, life is not to be taken for granted. Every adventure is earned. Don’t expect everything to be easy, it’s not. You have to be self-reliant and humble. It has been a life-changing experience for us. If you keep score of the good days and the bad days, you won’t find any satisfaction in what you have accomplished.

Sailing is a big adventure – discovering some wonderfully beautiful islands and locations, some equally wonderfully ‘yachties’ and more than that, discovering more about yourself. I know I have found out a lot of myself that I was not aware of.
Ginger, Captain and Bruno – enjoy your adventure
